> Eight Ender Draw  (posted Jan 2, 2014)

The era of the TV Raffle as a annual fund raising event is over.  In its place the club is introducing the "Eight Ender Draw".
The format is a playing card progressive raffle with draws on Tuesday and Wednesday nights when curling is scheduled at the club.
A standard deck of cards is used (including the 2  jokers - 54 cards in total).   On each draw night, raffle tickets are sold from 6:30  to  9:00 pm  with 50% of sales going towards the progressive pot.  One ticket is then drawn from the tickets sold that night with the purchaser given the chance to pick a card from the deck.
If the Eight of Clubs is picked then the purchaser is the winner of the accumulated pot !   Otherwise the purchaser receives a consolation prize of $20 (or $25 if a Joker is picked) and the losing card is removed from the deck.
For more details, click on Rules & Regulations.
The first draw night is Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

> 2013 Golf Day & Registration BBQ (posted June 15, 2013)

Golf Day 2013 On Friday June 14th, 35 golfers assembled for the 1:30 p.m. shot gun start in the annual Deer Lodge Golf Day Texas Scramble at the Assiniboine Golf Club. The morning showers had cleared before tee-off and made a brief appearance for about 20 minutes during the round. Otherwide it was quite a nice day out on the course.
The Registration BBQ at the club kicked off after the golf.  The big BBQ (courtesy of Muenther, the owner of the Foodfare at Mt Royal & Portage Ave.) was available for everyone to grill their steaks to their liking.
Following dinner the scores were tallied and organizer John McLachlan handed out the prizes. The most honest team  (the highest net score of +7 ) was the foursome of Ian Brown, Hart Kapitoler, Garry Parker and Harvey Dalke.  There was a tie for the low net team score for the day at 7 under turned in by the  Coss and Mahon groups.  On a coin toss Pete Coss, Jimmy Paige, Dan Zerbin and Robert Plant got the first choice of prizes.  Mike Mahon, Ian Mahon, Blair Smith and Kevin Exell chose second. Next up to chose prizes was the the team with the second lowest net at 6 under par : Ryan Kurtz, Trevor Gerrits, Nick Hagidiakow and Darren Hagidiakow.  There was a tie for the 3rd lowest team net score (-5) between the Templeton (Ryan Templeton, Denis Girrard, Gilles Girrard & Shaun McKee) and McLachlan (John McLachlan, Doug Bauer & Jeff Hagidiakow ) groups.   Ryan Kurtz won the prize for the  longest drive of the day on hole number 3.  Closest to the pin honors went to Ian Mahon for his shot on the par three 4th hole.
After all the completed curling application forms were processed the names were put in a box and shuffled for the random selection for the free membership for 2013-14.  To be fair we asked a young lad in attendance (Rylan) to reach in an pick the lucky winner's name.  He gave his dad an early Father's Day gift by drawing his dad's name !    Congratulations to Darwin McDonald  who will be curling with Dan Sul's team on Monday nights.
A large thank you goes to John McLachlan for organizing the day... and to Jody at the bar.
Click on the photo above to view pictures taken on  the course and in the lounge.
The club wishes to thank all those that came out to golf or attend the BBQ.  The registration funds help keep paying the bills over the summer

> Ladies Lockers Update (posted June 15, 2013)

Ladies Lockers Update The Deer Lodge Ladies Tuesday/Thursday League took on a project in  June to spruce up the Ladies Locker room at the club.
They raised funds for new lockers and paint. The old lockers were removed on June 4.  The room was then cleaned and freshened up with  two coats of paint. On June 12 the new lockers were installed and everything put back in place (except for the Christmas tree). The hard working team consisted of Jayne Sims, Joan Greenlay and Heather Mackie.
The Deer Lodge Board of Directors wishes to thank the Deer Lodge Ladies very much for their contribution to the ongoing well being of the club.   Great job !

> Update to 2013 - 14 Curling Schedule   (posted May 10, 2013)

The DLCC curling schedule for the 2013-14 season has been updated as a result of Curl MB adjustments to their schedule of events.
The Junior Regionals (Men and Women) were moved to one week later in the season than initially scheduled. The event will now take place at our club Friday Nov 29 through Sunday Dec 1, 2013.  League play initially scheduled for that weekend has been moved to the Friday Nov 22 to Sunday Nov 24 weekend. Leagues impacted are the Antlers (Friday only), Friday Mixed, Saturday Niners, Saturday Mixed, Anaf283, St. James Legion and Little Rocks & Bantams.

In their initial schedule for 2013 - 14, Curl MB  did not include the Junior Christmas bonspiel. Now they are planning to have a modified bonspiel in a different format - Youth Winter Open Spiel (16 & under open  and 13 & under open with limit of 16 teams each).   It was modified because the Junior Mens & Womens provincials are scheduled in that same time slot this year. Curl MB needed a single club  to host this new event and since that weekend was open on our schedule (Friday Dec 27 – Sunday Dec 29) we have offered our club as host.

As noted in the previous news posting, a month by month overview of our curling schedule is available by clicking on ..... Calendar of Events
A link to a spreadsheet version of the entire season schedule is also available on that page.
For a  specific league please visit the Leagues  page and follow the links for the league through to its own 2013-14  "Schedule" link.
The schedules are subject to change, so please remember to check back as the season approaches.
Some of the old web pages may still be sitting in your web browser's buffers so please remember to refresh each page.
