The city of Winnipeg is once
again offering two LEARN TO CURL programs to take place at Deer Lodge in
the fall of 2015 for ages 15 and up.
Both programs are on Saturday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 pm for eight
weeks starting October 17, 2015. The course fees are $166.00 ( Non-resident

Guide". Fall 2015 registration starts Wednesday, August 26 at 8:00 a.m.
These courses are not presently available for Online Registration.
The program descriptions can be found on page 87 of the guide.
LEARN TO CURL BEGINNER , 473213 - An absolute beginner's program for
those interested in learning to play a fast-growing sport. Program to cover
rules, etiquette, flat foot delivery, strategy and game play. Please bring
a curling broom, clean, flat-soled footwear with a full-foot slider or curling
LEARN TO CURL INTERMEDIATE , 473215 - For those who have completed the beginner
course or would like to improve on existing skills. Please bring a curling
broom, clean, flat-soled footwear with a full-foot slider or curling shoes.

We are pleased to welcome Corey
Thompson to the Deer Lodge Board of Directors.
Corey will take on the responsibilities of Director of Associate
Corey joined the club several years ago as a junior member of the Wednesday
Nights Mens’ Thompson team and is now their skip.
He will start taking on his new duties in September.
The two other openings on the Board are still available.

We are in need of some extra
help for your newly elected Deer Lodge Board of Directors.
After work assignments and allocation of director positions for 2015-16
were done, there are still some open positions to fill :
1) The first opening is that of Director of Associate Leagues.
This is an ongoing support function for our Associate (rental)
leagues and involves :
- the update, distribution and tracking of the rental contracts
- handling requests for changes in ice contracts or schedules
- collecting Curl MB affiliation information data from our leagues
- working with the Chair of Entertainment committee to organize the
annual Associate Leagues Night event
- requires some word processing and spreadsheet skills using existing
files from previous years
- This season's rental league contracts have already been prepared
and distributed to league representatives
2) The second opening available is for the Chair of Promotion
& Publicity committee. It is the first step through the
progression of chair positions leading to the President’s job. The
progression is from Promotion & Publicity, followed by Chair of Entertainment,
next onto Chair of Membership & Draw, then Chair of House & Finance
and finally, President.
The Promotion & Publicity Chair responsibilities include:
- securing advertising for arena walls and in the ice
- securing advertising for the DLCC Roster booklet and website
- working with other Chairs and rental leagues to promote events
and to recruit new curlers.
- participating in the Entertainment committee as Vice chair
This position requires some word processing and spreadsheet skills
using existing files from previous years
3) A third opening is that of Webmaster.
This is an ongoing support function for our Deer Lodge website
and involves :
- collecting news, curling schedules/results, photos and other digital
content from Board members and rental league representatives
- creating and updating DLCC web pages with the above content on
our internet provider's host server
- interfacing with our internet host provider staff for technical
support and host service contract management
- performing scheduled backups of information on our host server
and restoring operational files if need arises
- maintaining documentation of procedures, scheduled tasks, software
and techniques used to manage the website
Existing documentation of work tasks and schedules is at a good level. This
position requires some word processing and spreadsheet skills, skills
using existing tools to manipulate digital photos, experience with using
both personal computer and mobile device Internet browser software (Chrome,
Mentoring by current members of the Board that have previously held
the above positions will be provided to assist transition into the roles.

a change, making it quite a nice
day out on the course.

Ave.) was again available
to grill their steaks.

2014 Semi Annual Meeting
While preparing to post the highlights
of the May 19 2015 Annual Meeting of the Deer Lodge Curling Club it
was noticed that we neglected to post the highlights of last fall's Semi
Annual meeting. The latter took place on Thursday
October 2, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
in the upstairs lounge of the club. It is old news
but may still be of interest to some.

Dec 4 - 6 and the yet to be confirmed Youth Spring
Open Bonspiel March 31 - Apr 2, 2016. A date has
yet not been determined for the annual Sean Grassie Deer Lodge MCT event.
League curling has been scheduled to start after
the Thanksgiving weekend. The open week prior
to Thanksgiving will possibly be used for rentals or membership
practice times, but stay tuned.

The Deer Lodge Curling Club
website had been out of service since the middle of last weekend due to some
changes made on our server by our web hosting service provider.
Adjustments have been made at their location
to get us back up, but not without some work to be done on
