Update to 2013 - 14 Curling
Schedule (posted May 10, 2013)
The DLCC curling schedule
for the 2013-14 season has
been updated as a result of Curl MB adjustments to their schedule of events.
The Junior Regionals (Men and Women) were moved to one week later in the
season than initially scheduled. The event will now take place at our club
Friday Nov 29 through Sunday Dec 1, 2013. League play initially scheduled
for that weekend has been moved to the Friday Nov 22 to Sunday Nov 24 weekend.
Leagues impacted are the Antlers (Friday only), Friday Mixed, Saturday Niners,
Saturday Mixed, Anaf283, St. James Legion and Little Rocks & Bantams.
In their initial schedule for 2013 - 14, Curl MB did not include the
Junior Christmas bonspiel. Now they are planning to have a modified bonspiel
in a different format - Youth Winter Open Spiel (16 & under open
and 13 & under open with limit of 16 teams each). It was
modified because the Junior Mens & Womens provincials are scheduled in
that same time slot this year. Curl MB needed a single club to host
this new event and since that weekend was open on our schedule (Friday
Dec 27 – Sunday Dec 29) we have offered our club as host.
As noted in the previous news posting, a month by month overview
of our curling schedule is available by clicking on
..... Calendar of Events
.
A link to a spreadsheet version of
the entire season schedule is also available on that page.

Scottish
Men's Curling Tour Results
(posted Jan 30, 2013)
The Scottish Men's teams arrived
at Deer Lodge for lunch on Sunday
following their morning matches at the
Granite. They were treated to a meal featuring
Manitoba pickerel. After lunch, speeches, gift
exchanges and socializing, a draw of curling started
at 2 pm. The Scottish teams gathered at center ice for
a rousing tune prior to settling down for some serious
curling.
Deer Lodge teams skipped by Sean Grassie, Ian
Mahon, Scott Hanson and Reg Sims managed to
win 3 of the 4 matches played. The game
scores total differential was plus 3 for Canada. This
reduced the West Tour Scotts teams lead to 8 points
over Western Canadian teams. After team photos
and more socializing the Scotts headed back to their
hotel to prepare for an evening supper to be hosted at the
Granite.
On Monday morning the Scotts were back at Deer
Lodge for another round of games. Our
teams were mostly the same except for 5 subs required
due to work commitments. Once again Deer Lodge managed
to win 3 out of 4 matches. The points differential this
time was plus 14 and put Western Canadian teams into
the lead over their counterparts. The overall Strahcona
Cup tour results when including the Central and Eastern
tour groups see the Scotts in a commanding 250 + lead over
Canada with only a few days of mathches left to go.
Another quick lunch, speeches and socializing
followed before the Scotts' bus had to leave
for the airport and a flight to their next stop on the
tour.
Past President Brent Mackie was the one man
team responsible for organizing the event
from our end and deserves much thanks for all his
efforts. Jodie and Candace at the bar received
special thanks from our visitors for keeping
them well watered.

2012 Golf Day & Registration
BBQ (posted June
3, 2012)
On Friday June 1st, 51 golfers
assembled for the 1:30 p.m. shot gun start
in the annual Deer Lodge Golf Day Texas Scramble
at the Assiniboine Golf Club. The sun was out to start
but after about 6 holes the rains came and motivated
some groups off the course to the the comfort of the Deer
Lodge lounge. The weather started to clear for the last half
dozen holes and the keener golfers enjoyed the remainder
of a pleasant afternoon.
The Registration BBQ at the club kicked
off after the golf. The big BBQ (courtesy
of Custom Truck Sales) was available for everyone
to grill their steaks to their liking.
Following dinner the scores were tallied
and organizer Dan Rosentreter handed out
the prizes :
The low net team score for the day
was 8 under, turned in by the Pete Coss group.
Dan Zerbin won the prize for the
longest drive of the day (302 yards) on hole
number 3.
The most honest team (with the
highest net score ) was the Guy McLachlan
group.
Closest to the pin honors went to Ryan
Templeton for his shot on the par three
4th hole.
After all the completed curling application
forms were processed by Treasurer Bruce
Kerr they were shuffled for the random selection for
the free membership. The lucky winner's
name drawn by Jody Smart was Murray Schmidt.
A large thank you goes to Dan Rosentreter
& Frank Mitchell for organizing
the day... and to Jody at the bar.

Nancy Rummery Inducted
(posted May 7,
2012)
Nancy Rummery, Past President
(89-90) and HLM of Deer Lodge Ladies Curling
Club was formally inducted into the Builder category
of the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame at their
induction Dinner held on Sunday May 6, 2012 at Canad Inns
Polo Park.
There were several tables of Deer Lodgers
and family members in attendance.
This was a very special occasion for
the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame being its
25th annual event.
In addition to the usual curling dignitaries,
special guests included Honourable Philip
S. Lee, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba and his wife
Anita as well as Andrew Swan Minister of Justice
and Attorney General. Needless to say the speeches took
up more of the evening than usual, but oddly enough
were interesting and entertaining.
For a summary of Nancy's contribution
to curling in the province please click
on ..... Nancy.
The other Inductees in the Builders
category were Heather Helston and H. Bruce
Boreham.
Others inducted were those in the Curler
category : the Jim Dunstone 1980 Canadian
Mixed Championship team, 1930 & 1940 Howard
Wood Canadian Men's Championship Teams and the
1936, 1942 and 1949 Ken Watson Canadian Men's Championship
Teams.
