DLCC 2011 Calcutta ResultsThe 39th annual Calcutta was held in the upstairs lounge of the Deer Lodge Curling Club on Wednesday January 19th, 2011. The auction was for Deer Lodge rinks entering the MCA Bonspiel. Each Deer Lodge rink was paired up (after purchase) with one "elite" team in the Bonspiel. These pairings counted for most wins in the three major events (Category 1). In all there were 23 teams in the auction. We had a good crowd out with the hobbled Ian Mahon leading the biddling with his auctioneering talents. John McLachlan assisted with recording the purchases on the big white board and Rick Furney with collections. Food served during the breaks included pizza as well as the usual bread, sandwich meat, cheese, and pickles. The total money wagered at the Calcutta was $2,760.00, of which 14% ($386.40) is to be donated to the Junior curling program at the club. This left $2,373.60 to be paid out to the successful bidders. The event was organizied by Frank Mitchell's Entertainment committe with John McLachlan leading it up. Special thanks goes to Rick Mutton for once again providing his time and effort keeping track of all the Calcutta teams throughout the MCA bonspiel with recording the winners, losers and finally compiling the results for each category. Thanks also go to Rob Keough for team writeups, Jody Smart for 50/50 sales, Brent Mackie and Dan Sul & others for admission ticket sales & door prize presentations.
