CurlMB Info Meeting and WCCA Meeting Notes (posted October 6, 2011)Notes from the CurlMB Winnipeg Regional Information Meeting & WCCA Meeting starting at 7:00 pm September 28, 2011 at the Heather Curling Club. Vic Palles was in attendance to represent Deer Lodge CC.CurlManitoba Winnipeg Information Meeting CurlMB Executive Director Shane Ray opened the meeting calling for introductions around the room from those in attendance. Also attending from CurlMB were President Resby Coutts and VP Rob Van Kommer from Carberry. Approximately same number of city clubs as last year were represented at the meeting (approx. 12). 1. Provincial Qualifying Update A reminder that CurlMB has switched all qualifying over from Zones to Regions 2. Dominion Club Championship Eligibility Changes There has been some changes to eligibility with the Dominion. Juniors are now included in the ineligibility list. Sticks are now allowed. 3. Membership Fee's Club fees are $100, the participant fee is $4.00 per curler Invoices for the Club fee and CCA per sheet fee will be sent out by the end of the week. Demographic info and 50% of participant fees are due Nov15 and the remaining fees are due Dec 1. Clubs will receive an invoice for the whole amount after Nov 15 with a credit note on it. CurlMB has put together a membership reporting form to use but it includes space for curlers' names as well as their corresponding demographic info. The request for names of all our curlers is so they can rebate fees where curlers are registered at more than one club and also for proving club membership when curlers enter CurlMB events. We had told our members we planned to keep their names separate from other personal info so we will submit our own forms instead of CurlMB's. One report for the gender, postal code, language and YOB demographic info and another report with a list of registered curlers. CurlMB is willing to accept reports or files in any format, handwritten or computer files. 4. Safeway Fundraiser (Safeway Gift Cards) This Fundraiser which was discussed last year is being implemented. CurlMB will front clubs $2500 in cards if they want cards on hand to sell. They will need the first round of up front card orders by October 14. Leagues or individuals teams can also make money selling gift cards but must pre purchase cards. Clubs can earn 5% of sales while leagues or teams only 4%. (CurlMB gets net of 8% minus these). Gift cards can be used in all Safeway stores and gas bars. Program runs from October 1 to December 16th 2011. 5. Credit card and debit CurlMB has been working to secure a "Manitoba Curling Club" rate for debit and credit card. The offer is from their service provider, FirstData. CurlMB encouraged any clubs that do not have credit card or debit services to get them. It is a good service to club members and one that is expected by most. They think the prices are very competitive and the provider wants to better all other services. 6. Business of Curling Seminar The Seminar has been rescheduled to Oct 27-23 at the Wildewood Curling Club. CurlMB encouraged as many members to attend as possible. The information and registration are available for anyone interested. 7. MCA Men's Ice release sheets were distributed earlier. Last draw at DLCC is the late draw on the Saturday night. No DLCC ice required after then. They requested that any clubs be willing to have ice decals promoting this event in their club. There was a reminder that they need any promotional activities planned by the clubs for the event no later than Oct 15 to make the poster etc. 8. CurlManitoba Women's This event will be held in conjunction with the MCA Men's bonspiel. There is a 32 team max for womens teams. The draw is completed already. 9. New Facilities The NDP and PC's have both announced new recreation facilities for Winnipeg should they be elected. Shane Ray questioned the attendees about the merit for curling approaching either party to see if a partnership could be created to be a part of these new facilities. There was lukewarm response. 10. Role of the WCCA Shane questioned the role of the WCCA. He is lacking any written documentation and is unsure of the Terms of Reference for the group. The WCCA is a loose association of city clubs. This topic would carry on in the next WCCA portion of the evening. 11. Miscellaneous (i) Shane made some references to the CurlMB website: -Under the "Services" tab there is a reference to "Draws". Marj Bone has put together versions of scorecards and draw sheets. These are available for use by member clubs and leagues. The draw sheets cover round robin draws for various number of teams , divisions and sheets of ice. There are also blank bonspiel draw sheets and score cards. -Under the "Curling Clubs" tab there is a reference to "Club Corner". This has forms to download for filling out such as the :Club Contact" form , etc. (ii) Miscellaneous handouts - Bingo Grants 2011-12 (opportunities to earn grants for working bingos at the two Wpg casinos.
