Jerry
Brown – Builder
Jerry Brown started to curl in 1968 with his father, Stan, at the Deer
Lodge Curling Club in Winnipeg. He has remained a faithful member of
the club from then until the present. For 12 years he served on
the Board of Directors of the Deer Lodge and was club president in the
1990 - 1991 season. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Deer Lodge.
Service to the sport has always been more important to Jerry than
competitive recognition. His administrative contributions to curling
and the M.C.A. began in 1983 when he was elected as Deer Lodge club
representative to the M.C.A. In 1985 he was elected to the M.C.A.
Council. From 1985 to 1991 Jerry chaired many committees.
These included Credential and Special Events, Ice and Apparel, and the
Strathcona Senior Men's Championship. He chaired each of these
committees twice.
As third Vice President, Jerry was chairman of Finance and Grants; as
second Vice President he was chair of the 105 th M.C.A. Bonspiel; as
first Vice President he was chairman of the Labatt Tankard
Championship. In the 1994 - 95 season Jerry was President elect and
Chairman of Management. In 1995, he became President of the
Manitoba Curling Association. In 1996 as immediate Past President,
Jerry was chairman of Constitution and M.C.A. nominating.
After 12 years of work with the M.C.A. Jerry did not retire. He has
worked on national and international events hosted in Winnipeg.
He was Brier Executive Vice Chairman and Director of the Brier Patch in
1998; and Vice President and Chairman of the Extra End Pub at the 2003
World Championship in Winnipeg.
Jerry has worked as a director of the Manitoba Curling Foundation (1996
- 98) and as M.C.A. liaison to the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame (1995
- 97).
He was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the M.C.A. in 1997.
Jerry Brown has shown a dedicated commitment to the administrative
aspect of curling in Manitoba. Therefore, with this impressive record
of volunteer service Jerry Brown is welcomed as a Builder into the
Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame in 2011.
