It
was a cold start to the new year with the wind chill into the -40s.
It was almost as chilly in the lounge for the annual New Year's Day Levee at the club as the furnace that heats the upstairs had broken down. But it was not enough to keep hearty club members from enjoying the food and good cheer to kick off the new year ! It was toasty warn on the main floor level which is on another furnace. This was where the line formed for the Turkey Shoot being held on sheet 3. Those that were successful in putting a rock completely in the 4 foot circle can thank Keough & Colleagues for sponsoring the prizes this year. Also thanks to Shirley for her cheerful bar service and Bruce Ans for preparing the traditional clam chowder and hot snacks. > 2010 MCA Bonspiel & Calcutta (posted Dec 28, 2009) This

been updated on the

A month by month overview is available via the Calendar of Events link. For a specific league please visit the Leagues page and follow the links for the league through to its own 09-10 "Schedule" link. You will notice that most leagues will be starting a little earlier this fall. This is due to the Jr Mens Provincial Championship being pushed back by the Olympics and the timing of the Christmas and New Year's breaks. There is room to make some small adjustments depending on league convenors' reviews of their league's schedules , so please remember to check back as the season approaches. > Curling Lessons (posted Aug 15, 2009)The city of

> Golf Day & Registration BBQ 2009 (posted June 14, 2009)A record 17
groups
teed off at noon on Friday June 12th at the Assinniboine Golf
Club for our annual Deer Lodge Golf Day. The
weather was excellent for golf with just a brief sprinkling to remind
us what we were missing. We had changed the game to a
Texas scramble format this year which was well received and made for a
more relaxing day for all.
After golf back at the Lodge, the happy cooker Dan Sul got the big BBQ fired up while the rest of us had some pre dinner refreshments. Steaks were then prepared to individual specifications and enjoyed. After all the scores were tallied emcee Brent Mackie announced the winners. The team with highest net score (the most honest) was the Kieron Wall group with a 79. The low net team score for the day (64) was turned in by the Dale Wilson group. Closest to the pin honours went to Kevin Meadows, while closest drive to the line prize went to Gord Sparkes. Curling applications for the 2009-10 season were collected and door prizes were handed out. All the curling applications received to date were shuffled and the lucky winner drawn for the free membership was Norm Sherman. Bottle draws were also made with the lucky winners being : Kevin Meadows, Hal Tanasichuk, George Smith and Bill Heinkel. Brent thanked Dan Sul for his great grill work as well as George Smith and Custom Truck Sales for providing the use of the barbecue. Kris Keough thanked Brent Mackie & crew for organizing the event and Jody & Shirley for the bar. Annual
General Meeting of the members of the Manitoba Curling Association Inc.
will be held at the : Souris
Curling Club, Kirkup Lounge, 32 3rd Avenue West, Souris, Manitoba on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 11:30 a.m.
The major item on the agenda is a change in board structure pending approval by member facilities at the meeting. This change is highlighted by the reduction in board size from 44 to 12 and a shift in the focus of the energy of the Board from that of operational to one of policy governance. It is expected that this change will be implemented in time for the 2009-2010 season. The meeting is open to all members of all affiliated curling clubs. The Annual Report booklets will be provided at the meeting. Rose Neufeld is the outgoing president of the MCA, Jim Strath will be president for the 2009-10 season. > Annual Meeting Night 2009 (posted May 22, 2009)On
May 19, 2009 ,just prior to the this year's
Annual Meeting, a large assembly of Deer Lodge Past Presidents
assembled in
the Welsh Room upstairs to have a group photo taken. This is a
tradition that has been carried out every several years. To see
the new photo added to the collection in our Photo Gallery click

Shortly after the photo session our Annual Meeting convened at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs lounge of the club. See meeting highlights. > Web Site Is On The Move (posted May 22, 2009) The Deer
Lodge
web site is in the process of being moved. The Canadian Curling
Association has provided the curlingclub.ca
web hosting service to over 70 curling club web sites for several
years. Our club has subscribed to this service since April 2003
to host our deerlodge.curlingclub.ca
web site. Effective July 1 of this year this CCA service is being
discontinued.
One of the unfortunate results is that users will have to change the web name they use for accessing our web files. The web name deerlodgecurlingclub.ca was found to be available in the internet directory so it was acquired. The only difference from the old name is the missing "." after "deerlodge" and before "curlingclub". A new web host service provider has been contracted and duplicate copies of our web files have already been copied to the site. To access the moved web pages just change your browser references ("favorites" in Internet Explorer, "bookmarks" in Firefox, etc.) by dropping the "." or add new references for the new site. Additions and changes to our web files will be mirrored to both old and new sites until the cut over on July 1. To return to list of annual Club News Archive pages - click here
