> 2008 Mens Leagues Champions  (posted Mar 18, 2008)

Monday Mens wound up their final round on March 17, completing regular season play for all the Mens Leagues.
Teams qualifying for the Club Championship Round have already begun their double knock out play as of Tuesday night March 18.
The President's Challenge and the Consolation Round single knock out action will commence the week of March 24.
All teams will be notified of their game time. Teams should expect to play on any weeknight.  Due to time constraints, games must be played as scheduled or defaulted. Good Luck in your event !

The team in the top group of each league that wins the most games in the final round is declared winner of that league.
After applying tie breaker rules, congratulations to the following winning teams to be recognized at the Men's Wind Up Dinner on April 18 :
Monday            Kris Keough
Tuesday           Brent Mackie
Wednesday A   Sean Grassie
Wednesday C   Rob Keough
Thursday          Bob Price

-Bob Price won all 5 of his games to take Thursday Night.
The tie breaker rules got a good workout this year in determining the remaining league champions :
-On Tuesday Night, four teams finished at 3-2 in last round play.  Based on head to head results amongst the tied  teams: two teams (Claeys and Fischer) were eliminated off the top as they only had 1 win against the others while the other two teams (Brent Mackie and Hal Tanasichuk) had 2 wins each.  Since Brent beat Hal in their head to head game, Brent's team gets the mugs.
-Similarily four teams in the Wednesday A group tied at 3-2.  Two teams (Malanchuck and Martin) were eliminated off the top as they only had 1 win against the others while the other two teams (Grassie and Gordon) had 2 wins each.  Since Sean beat Jack in their head to head game, Sean's team gets the mugs.
The simpler tie breakers were on Monday Night and  Wednesday C :
-The battle between the Keoughs on Monday (both with 4 wins) was settled by Kris defeating Rob in their head to head game, giving Kris the mugs.
-In Wednesday C action both Rob Keough and Cliff Murphy both finished with 4 wins.  Rob's team wins the mugs based on their head to head win over Murphy.

The auction was for Deer Lodge rinks entering the MCA Bonspiel.  Each Deer Lodge rink was also paired with one other team of note in the Bonspiel. These pairings only counted for most wins in the two major events category.
The organizer of the event ,Colin McLachlan, reports that we had a good crowd out with much spirited bidding led by the professional auctioneering efforts of Mitch Njegovan's nephew.
The total money wagered at the Calcutta was $2,210.00, of which 14% ($309.40) is to be donated to the Junior curling program at the club.
This left $1,900.60 to be paid out to the successful bidders, for more details click on ...results.

> 2007 Junior Bonspiel Results     (posted Nov 20, 2007)

Bonspiel Coordinator Murray Peterson reports that Deer Lodge Curling Club hosted another successful Junior Bonspiel, its 7th, from November 2nd to 4th.  There were over 120 curlers between the ages of 9 and 16 making shots, making friends and having a lot of fun. Curlers came from all over the province and besides the good times, there was some very fine shot making from some very talented curlers.
Winners of the 13 and Under Group were the Curtis Kaatz Team from Ste. Anne (in the Team Kaatz picture, from left to right: Coach Anni Markmann, Curtis Kaatz (skip), Austin Ridge (third), Brendan MacCuish (second) and Travis Wittebolle (lead).  Finalists were the Chris Shaw Team from the Charleswood.
In the 16 and Under Group, winners were the Evan Cunningham Team from the Charleswood, although he also curls in the Deer Lodge/Assiniboine Memorial Junior Superleague on Sunday nights. In the Team Cunningham picture (left to right) are Matthew Brown (second), Evan Cunningham (skip), Tyler Denisuik (third), Riley Stoughton (lead) and John Cunningham (coach).  Finalists were the Connor Njegovan Team who are also members of the Sunday night Superleague.
Rebecca, lead for Team Hebert, was the proud winner of the Asham broom draw - she went right out on to the ice and put it to good use!
Murray passed along a big thank-you to all the players, parents and coaches for their participation, to the Junior coordinators and volunteers from Deer Lodge who bravely looked after and stocked the Players-Only Lounge, to all other volunteers, family and friends, who pitched in whether asked or not and to the kitchen and bar staff for all their efforts.  A special thanks went to Hal for so carefully tending to the ice.  Murray noted that this bonspiel would not have happened without the help of  his  kids, Matthew, Colin, Scott and Beth and wife Sandy, who is an organizational whiz!
Thanks were also extended to event sponsors, Asham's Curling Supplies, Boston Pizza and Walmart.

It is anticipated that work should be completed in one week, leaving time to prepare the ice for the 2007/08 season.  The next phase would be to remove the poly, strap the batt insulation and allow to dry before installing a new ceiling covering (timing yet to be determined).
