MCA Competitions Info & Entry
(posted October 12, 2005)
We have received
most of the posters and entry forms for this season's slate of
provincial competitions.
The posters and entry forms are posted on the various bulletin boards
around the club.
In addition, the MCA has all championship posters with entry and
eligibility details on their website.
See MCA Website.
Their website also allows for the online submission of entry forms to
eliminate paper and mailing.
Last year about 65-70 % of entries were via their website !
This year the MCA has introduced a new entry system with double
encryption security on credit card payments.
Last year the submitted electronic entries had to be manually keyed
into a database by a MCA person.
Now your entries will go directly into the new database, reducing their
office workload significantly.
Hopefully this makes it more convenient for curlers as well.

Deer Lodge 2 Person Bonspiel Results
(posted October 8, 2005)
- Due to a number of uncontrollable circumstances we did not get the
numbers we were hoping for but we did manage to get 20 teams of 2
and all in attendance seemed to have a good time. Games were six ends
with each team throwing six rocks. Teams were divided into 5
groups of 4, with the winner of each event going through to an 8 team
sudden death playoff on Saturday night. 3 wildcard teams were randomly
drawn at dinner to round out the playoffs.
-The bonspiel was well received with every non-Deer Lodge team pledging
to be back next year, each hoping to bring several more teams along
with them. Posters will be put in as many Curling clubs as possible
this winter to get a head start for next year, and hopefully, through
word of mouth and a little creative advertising within the club, more
Deer Lodge teams will enter next year as well.
If we are able to attract 48 to 60 teams next year like we hope, we
would be able to have 3 or 4 draws on Friday night, which would
decrease the amount of games each team has to play on Saturday which
was the one thing we would change for next time. Some of the "older
teams" (see Mclachlan, Guy and Gordon, Jim) simply ran out of gas in
the playoff round.
-Thanks to Joan Hooten, who donated two door prizes and fed the curlers
throughout the long day, Pat Doyle and Hal Tanasichuk for getting the
ice ready and Kathy Switzer for making more than several trips to the
ice for beer runs. Also thanks to Matt Peterson for donating a lovely
trophy which will be "engraved" with each years winners name.
-This years winner, none other than the "Two Men Named Smith" team of
lan Mahon and BIair Smith taking home a first prize of $300.
Congragulations!
-Special thanks go to Rob Keough for all the work going in to
organizing this event.

Sorry for the inconvenience
(posted September 28, 2005)
Our web site was unavailable all day Monday September 26 and Tuesday
September 27 because our web server host site experienced a major
failure on Sunday night. The server, which also hosts the
Canadian Curling Association and several other curling organization
sites, was rebuilt and files recovered from backups over the last two
days.
Most of Deer Lodge's site was available by 8:30 am on Wednesday. There
is one facility that is still not operational though. The ability to
submit a online application to the mens leagues is currently not
functioning.

starts next month at DLCC and Assinboine Memorial, and has created
quite a buzz in the curling community since its inception in the

June 7 Golf Day & Registration Night
(posted June 8, 2005)
It was soggy out there on the Assiniboine Golf Course, but we
didn't let a little rain spoil our fun.
According to Dale Wilson , the event organizer,
we had 29 brave golfers and about 65 people at the steak dinner.
The top golfer was Murray Schmidt with an 80,
second Mike Mahon with a 85.
Closest
to Pin" went to Ian Mahon. The
"Most Accurate Drive" came from Blair Smith.
After the steaks were consumed and the golf prizes handed out we had
the draw for the free curling membership.
The lucky winner was Gary Bentham.
Special thanks to Cliff Murphy, Vic Palles,
Byron Doyle, the CPR and several anonymous donors for
providing prizes.
A big thanks also goes to Kathy Switzer for juggling her time between
the steak sales, keeping the cole slaw and potato salad bowls filled
and providing bar services during the
evening
