> Curl Manitoba Fee Changes  (posted Mar 14, 2011)

Curl Manitoba is in the process of implementing a new membership model for the 2011-2012 season.
In order to belong to Curl Manitoba and the
CCA, a curling club like DLCC must pay an annual fee.
The current model is based on charging curling clubs based on the  number of sheets of ice they have in their facility.  The new model will see a switch from a per sheet model to a individual membership fee charged to each curler in Manitoba of between $3 and $4  (yet to be finalized).

For a summary of why CurlMB are changing to the new model, click on ........Reasons
For a summary of
CurlMB's view of the process, click on .................Process
Curl Manitoba has provided some frequently asked questions & answers , click on..... FAQ

This new fee would apply to most everyone curling at Deer Lodge in any one of the 19 leagues at our club (approximately 1,000 participants in total).

The Deer Lodge Board is studying how to work with all the leagues to implement the necessary changes in
ice rental contracts  and our internal processes.

Note : Curl Manitoba must still ratify this change at their annual meeting in June, but we anticipate this will be approved so we are proceeding on that basis.

BantamIn this month's report on the status of  our Deer Lodge Bantams,  convenor Doug Bauer noted that things are going well, but can always get better.
He asked if anybody has contacts with the School board so that they can get a leaflet about our program in for the start of the next school year.
This would certainly help to grow the program.  We will discuss at our next Board meeting this Saturday.
Doug also commented that our Bantam teams are all very close in the standings heading into the final round.
On a lighter note, he sent along a photo of  what can happen when you throw your rock while wearing thick gloves.
A good guard protecting shot rock.  All the curlers stopped play to watch.

> 2010 Golf Day & Registration BBQ (posted June 11, 2010)

Fifteen groups teed off at 1 p.m. on Friday June 11th at the Assiniboine Golf Club for our annual Deer Lodge Golf  Day.  Once again it was a Texas scramble format.   Not all groups chose to finish as a downpour hit the already soggy course at about the halfway point.
After golf back at the Lodge, our chef for the evening George Smith fired up the big BBQ ( courtesy of Custom Truck Sales).   He did a great job with the steaks preparing them to our individual tastes.
Curling applications for the 2010-11 season were collected throughout the evening.
After dinner all the scores were tallied and emcee Dan Sul  announced the winners.
The low net team score for the day, an unbelievable 12 under par 60,  was turned in by the Brent Mackie group. On the team with  Brent were Gary Lacey, Garry Cornelson and Gerry Bell.   Cornelson also  won the prize for the  longest drive of the day on hole number 3.   To top it off they also inflicted damage to the Assiniboine Club House when one of the group sculled a lob wedge on the 9th hole sending the ball through one of the windows in the bar area.
The team with the highest net score (and the most honest) was the Colin McLachlan group.   Helping to achieve that recognition were Jack & Jim Gordon, Dan Gagne and Al Titheridge.
Closest to the pin honours went to Scott Hanson for his shot on the par three 4th hole.
Door prizes were handed out next followed by the draw
for the free membership.
All the curling applications received to date were shuffled by Brent  before getting Colin to make the random selection.  The lucky winner drawn
was Wayne Buckle.
Thanks go to Dan Sul  & crew for organizing the event and to Jody & Shirley at the bar.
