2004 at 7:00 p.m.

MCA Annual General Meeting

The 2003-04 Annual General Meeting of the members of the Manitoba
Curling Association Inc. will be held at the Morris Curling Club,
Morris, Manitoba on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 11:30 A.M.
The Meeting is open to all members of all affiliated curling clubs
(includes Deer Lodge).
Gord Sparkes Inducted

Gord Sparkes, Deer Lodge Past President 91/92 and Honorary Life Member
93, was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall-Of-Fame at the 17th
annual Induction Dinner held on Sunday May 2, 2004 at Canad Inns Polo
Park. Gord was honored in the Curler-Builder category. His
lengthy curling credentials include being a member of the Barry Fry
rink from Deer Lodge that were Canadian Men's Champions in 1979.
In addition to serving many years on the Board at Deer Lodge, Gord was
also Scottish Tour Chairman 1983 & 1993 and Director Winnipeg
Labatt Briar in 1998. He earned a MCA Honorary Life Membership in

Men's Windup 2004

The annual Men's Windup for 2004 was held Friday evening April
16. A
large crowd turned out for the end of year presentation of curling
prizes and recognition awards.....(continued)

14, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. See highlights.
Déjà Vu - all over again

The play-off round for the Deer Lodge Men's Leagues
wrapped up on
Friday evening April 2, 2004 with three repeat winners from last year
!
Mike Mahon with his team of Ian
Mahon, Blair Smith and Gary Bentham
made it 4 years in a row by capturing the 2003-2004 title as Deer Lodge Men's Club Champions.
With Ian coaching from behind
the glass due to recent surgery, the remaining members of Team Mahon
overcame Kevin Gromnisky's team in
the final.
Jack Gordon's team won the
President's Trophy for
the second year
in a row by defeating Cliff Murphy's
foursome in that final.
Don Krampetz's team repeated
as Consolation Trophy winners
with a win
over the Andrew Kelch team.
The trophies will be presented at the Men's Windup on Friday April 16.
Tuesday/Thursday Ladies 2004-2005

The Deer Lodge Ladies Tuesday/Thursday morning league is
currently
looking for curlers .....singles, or teams. Anyone
interested can contact Marylin Brown 885-6561.
Men's 2003-2004 Regular Season Results

The final results for the Men's Leagues regular season
play are now
posted for each of the nights : Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The
winners for each night will be honored at the Men's Windup on Friday
April 16. The
Play-Off round is now underway with 16 teams competing for the Club
Championship, 32 in the chase for the President's Trophy and the
remaining teams in the Consolation Trophy event.

The round robin results for the Monday Juniors are now
available.
Congratulations to Team Thomson as the Grand Aggregate WInner. The
Play-Off round is now underway. Please visit the Junior League's

Mens Golf Day & Registration June 10

The posters are now up for this year's Mens Golf Day on
Thursday June
10. The bus leaves Deer Lodge for the Sandy Hook Golf Course at
9:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. tee off. The combined bus & green
fees are $40.00. To guarantee your seat on the bus please sign up
on the poster at the club and submit your fee by April 16. After
golf the bus will return to Deer Lodge for our annual Steak Dinner and
Registration Night.
For those that wish to golf but will be using their own transportation
there is a separate sign up list.
The cost for the annual Steak Dinner and Registration Night will be an
additional $12.00 and is open to all members whether they signed up for
golf or not.
All paid up 2004/2005 season curling applications received prior to and
including June 10 will be eligible for the draw to be held at the
Steak Dinner and Registration Night for a complete refund of their fees.
Your coordinators for this year's events are Mitch Njeogvan, Rae Corder
and Ian Brown if you have any questions.
Lounge Chair Refurbishment Program

The DLCC Board
of Directors and Past Presidents have initiated a program to renovate
the lounge chairs. We are looking to all Deer Lodge curlers and
supporters to help
contribute to the success of this program through a tax deductible
donation. For

Men's League Curling 2004-2005

Applications are now available for curling in the Monday,
Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday Men's Leagues for the 2004-2005 season.
Get your applications in early to ensure your favorite
night. Forms are available at the club, or online by
clicking on 2004-2005 App (PDF version)
or 2004-2005 App (WORD6 version).
4th Annual Fundraiser

The poster is out announcing this year's dinner and dance
on February
28. The tickets will be going quickly ! For

Bonspiel Calcutta Results

>There was a three way tie for rinks with most wins in
the two major
events : Bill Johnstone. Dave Johnson and Jack Gordon.
>The rink with the fewest wins (1) was skipped by Steve Kolodka.
>Sean Grassie's rink played the most games (18).
>The rinks out in 8 games with 3 wins or less were : Jack Grassie,
Bruce McBeth and Paddy Gladdin.
>Congratulations to two rinks winning trophies. The Sean
Grassie rink won two trophies : Bituminex Paving and Great-West
Life. The Dave Johnson foursome won the Coca Cola trophy.
>The rink out in 8 games with 4 wins or more was Bill Johnstone.
Sam Brown Memorial Volunteer Award

This award was initiated by the Board of Directors in 2003
as a
companion award to the HLM award. The Sam Brown award recognizes
individuals who have given freely of their time to the club on a
voluntary basis over a number of years. The first
recipients of this new award were Norm and Martha Brown.
Nominations are now being solicited from Deer Lodge

January 2004 Board Meeting

The Board of Directors held their first monthly meeting
for 2004 on
Saturday January
17, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. still basking in the glow of the huge success of
the 2004 Strathcona Sr. Men's Championship held at our club the

Honorary Life Member Award

Each year at this time nominations are solicited from Deer
Lodge
members for the prestigious Honorary Life Member (HLM)
award. This award primarily recognizes individuals whose efforts
over a significant period of time have brought honor to the club
through their contribution in an executive role in the club and/or MCA
involvement, or as a participant in provincial or national
curling events. For more information and nomination forms click

Starthcona Senior Men's Championship

The final scheduled event of the 2004 championship took
place on
Tuesday evening Jan 14 with the Volunteers Appreciation
night at the club in the Jimmy Welsh room. The snowy weather kept
the attendance down but not the spirits. Bruce McBeth, Chairman
for the 2004 Championship recapped the success of the past week
from the opening practice sessions, through the action packed curling
topped off by an exciting extra end victory by Neil Andrews of Brandon,
to the final closing ceremonies. The event drew close to 2ooo
spectators to the club during the competition and over 30,000 page
views on our web site. There were may accolades form the curlers,
the fans and the MCA. Hats off to the Host Committee and the 100
volunteers that made it all possible.

Martin rink wins Junior Spot !

Congratulations to the Mike Martin rink of Deer Lodge for
winning a
berth into the Target Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Swan
River scheduled for January 15 to 19. Martin defeated Adam
Tumilson of West Kildonan 6-2 at the Wildewood Curling club yesterday
in the final of a six-team playoff for the spot. Mike and
his team of Corey Chambers, Ryan Blundon and Alex Mitchell are members
of the Men's Monday and Wednesday Night Leagues. Their coach is
Frank Mitchell.

The Board of Directors met
on October 4, 2003 at 9:00 am. in the
main floor Board Room just as the first rocks of this season's
league play were being thrown on the ice. The honors went to the

Curling Rules Changes For 2003-2004

At a recent Information meeting hosted by the Manitoba
Curling
Association, a summary of rule changes was presented. For more

Registration Night

The club hosted a registration night on Thursday September
11,
2003 from 6 - 8:30 pm. Representatives from the Mens,
Business Girls, Friday Night Mixed, and Junior/Bantam/Little Rocks
leagues were on hand throughout the night to process applications from
teams and individuals. Contact names for all the
other leagues were available for referral as well. There are
still some openings but overall, leagues are filling up quickly.

has recently
distributed its Fall 2003 Leisure Guide.
In the Adult Sport Programs section there are two LEARN TO CURL program
courses that will be offered at Deer Lodge. For more information

Men's Golf Day started early on Tuesday May 27 as

avid golfers gathered at the club at 8:30 a.m. to take the bus out to

Sam Brown Memorial Volunteer Award

The first recipients of this new award were honored at the
Men's Windup
on Friday April 25, 2003.
Norm and Martha Brown received a plaque honoring their
tireless efforts over the many years they have been associated with the
club.

Threepeat for Mahon

Mike Mahon with his team of Ian Mahon, Blair Smith and
Gary Bentham
have made it 3 years in a row as they captured the 2002-2003 title as
Deer Lodge Men's Club Champions. The engraving of the trophy was
made simple as the four names members remained the same during this
streak. Jack Gordon's team won the President's Trophy and
Don Krampetz's team took the Consolation Trophy.
